The Purépechas are an indigenous people from the northwest region of Michoacán in Mexico. They are traditionally known for their fine weaving and pottery. They are also famous for holding out against the Aztecs, and were never been adsorbed into their monumental Pre-Hispanic empire. Today, there are an estimated 20,000 Purépecha that call Marion county home.
